The Situation

As the official export credit agency of the United States, the Export–Import Bank plays a critical role in supporting American exporters and advancing U.S. commercial interests abroad. Yet the Bank’s mission – and its value to employers, workers, and policymakers – was often misunderstood, even as global competition intensified. Official international engagements by the Bank’s chairman presented a unique opportunity to clarify the institution’s role, reinforce U.S. economic priorities, and elevate leadership visibility with both domestic and global audiences.

The Approach

David coordinated national and international media coverage surrounding the chairman’s official visits to more than a dozen countries, ensuring that each engagement reinforced clear, consistent messages about the Bank’s purpose and impact.

The effort emphasized disciplined message development, selective media engagement, and strategic opinion leadership. Over the course of three years, this approach produced a number of firsts – including op-eds in The Washington Post and The Financial Times – and a record number of high-impact media placements in influential outlets worldwide.

The Impact

The chairman’s visibility helped sharpen understanding of the Export–Import Bank’s mission and leadership role at a critical time. The coordinated communications strategy strengthened credibility with policymakers, international partners, and the business community, reinforcing the Bank’s position as a key instrument of U.S. economic and trade policy.
